Table Ready: Iron Warriors MK II Centurion

We have plenty of painted Legions for the Horus Heresy but there are many more good guys than misunderstood armies. Tyson has painted some Traitors for me but now it’s time I paint an army for myself.

Raise that Shrapnel Bolter and take aim: it’s time for Iron Within

I got to paint the test model

It’s happening. Instead of just playing an army I painted for her, Kera is painting a Heresy army of her own. I may or may not have volunteered to paint a “test” model, possibly for various reasons. Reasons such as I wanted to help make a plan to make the process as easy as possible for my wife. Then there was the whole need to paint a new Mk2 Marine. Also, I just like painting Marines, especially characters.

I was pumped, to say the least, so I got to work and painted up my first Iron Warrior and the first for our new Traitor force. Oh, but, I am not going to steal her thunder. Nope. Not gonna give her a good reason to hit me. It’s cool, she got to work soon after and painted up a unit. I can show off my Iron dude now.

I painted the glorious MK II Centurion in two sub assemblies, the body, head and left arm as one and then the cape, backpack and part of the right arm and mace. It was a bit messy but ultimately it was the only way I would be able to paint the cloak behind the model as well as I wanted to.

After a quick discussion, Kera chose an accent color for the transverse crest and cloak to match the bases. I picked the cold blue for the visors. The rest was determined mostly by being Iron Warriors. The goal was for the quickest and easiest method that would still look good on the table.

Kera already went over the basic process here so I won’t belabor the process here.

Two things remain. I am not thrilled with the seam on the cloak that sits upon his left pauldron, not sure I can fix it now, as the seam gave way when I was forcing the cloak onto the painted model. The other is the Vexilla. It will get a IV transfer when we get the rest of the box set done and maybe some lil’ scribbles on the Vexilla, and the rest of them from her tac squads.

It is hard to describe just how much I enjoy painting this model up for my wife to help her prepare for the project ahead. I am sure I will help a little more. I got to do the hazards on that first Squad and their transport. I bet there will be more labor waiting for me, but, I mean, I am willing to help any of my friends with theirs Projects.

Just this past week I airbrushed contrast paint over models I highlighted with chrome to set up Cliff with an entire army worth of models ready for detail. I have two more of his armies haunting my hallway, as repayment for the effort he has put in with files and sand paper with my Warhounds and Warlord Titan parts. How can I possibly not help my wife out a little with her project? It’s more fun killing painted models! Until next time…
